Summary

In Chapter 18, set July 24, 2021, when Holly arrives at the campground where Lakeisha and her friends are staying, Holly wonders if the owners realize how racist the camp logo is with its picture of a grinning Native American chief.

Lakeisha tells Holly she thinks Bonnie is dead. When Holly asks, Lakeisha says that Bonnie and her mother did not get along. Bonnie could never do anything right according to her mother. Despite their differences, Lakeisha still does not think Bonnie would have run away to escape her mother because the two did love each other.

Lakeisha tells Holly that she wishes Black families had the money that Bonnie’s mother had to get justice for Blacks who were killed or went missing, like Dutton and Ellen Craslow.
