Summary

In Chapter 23, the police office frisks both of them and two detectives separate Adrian and Mallory to question them. Mitzi’s body was found in the woods behind her house. Mallory confides in the detective that she was looking for Mitzi’s notes from the séance. After the detective is done asking Mallory questions, the detective asks who Mallory was trying to reach in the séance. Mallory responds Annie Barrett and the detective tells Mallory that her “daddy always said that story was a fish tale” (289). Later, Adrian and Mallory are sitting by the pool and Caroline calls about Mitzi. Caroline tells Mallory that she “heard Mitzi yelling” (289). Adrian and Mallory debate whether Mitzi was killed by Anya. Mallory looks at the notes from the séance and notices a pattern that helps them determine the language is Hungarian. Mallory...
