Chapters 7 and 8 Summary

Dave canvasses Lafayette for information but comes up empty. He ponders Bubba's potential involvement and decides the man is probably not involved. His background check completed and approved, Dave then starts working as a policeman again. Nearly immediately he goes to New Orleans for a two-day stint and canvasses the city looking for clues. He is alerted that a man has been found dead in a bathtub and investigates the scene. Dave identifies the man as Toot, and it appears that he was murdered—inasmuch as he was electrocuted in the bathtub. Dave finally calls on Monroe, convinced that if INS is somehow behind events that Monroe might offer up information. Instead, Monroe babbles apologies but does not offer information. Confused, Dave returns home. His new boss, the sheriff, is infuriated that Dave has gone out of his patrol area...
