Black Dog: Chapter 17

It is still dark when Jude awakens, and he realizes that Georgia is not in bed. As he sits up he hears the rumble of an engine and his dogs barking frantically, and Jude looks out the window. He sees an old, faded blue Chevy pickup truck sitting empty in the driveway, and knows it belongs to the dead man; he also sees Bon and Angus throwing themselves against their chain-link pen while they bark. The phone next to the bed rings and Jude sees that it’s 3:12 AM. The call is from Danny, who apologizes for leaving the way he did, and then says that he is walking outside on a dark road and doesn’t know where he is.
