Summary

Chapter 1 - The book opens with Samantha sitting outside the law firm where she works in Manhattan. The firm is famous for being the largest law firm in the world. Samantha laments the fact that it means nothing really because of the recession. All of the businesses they have worked with were hit hard, with many of the larger ones closing down. As a result, the law firm has no business coming in and no way to pay their employees. Everyone is panicked as a string of employees are fired over a few days. Samantha is called into a meeting with her boss, Andy Grubman. Two other employees, Ben and Izabelle, are called in as well.
