Summary

In Chapter 26, Poole calls Box. He tells Box that they are in a shootout with the police and he does not think they are going to escape alive. He lets her know he loves her. He also tells the women where the truck is located. Dora is distraught and wants to try to help him. In spite of Kort’s protest, they decide to go to Marfa to try to retrieve the money. They do not think they can help Poole or Darling, but agree to try to call Poole from a pay phone later in case he survives.

In Chapter 27, the shootout continues. Darling shoots Bob. The injury is bad, but not fatal. When more shots come at Darling, he considers giving up. Then he is shot. He calls Poole and tells him that he is dying, He promises to shoot as much...
