Summary
Richard enters the nursing home turned refugee accommodations, and is introduced to four young men: Rashid, Zair, Ithemba, and Abdusalam. As they speak, Richard learns that all four men come from Nigeria, but very different parts of the country. Richard is introduced to the immense cultural, religions and social diversity of Nigeria. Richard learns about the harrowing boat journey that Rashid and Zair took. Their boat capsized when the Italian coast guard tried to seize it, leading 550 of the 800 refugees aboard to drown. Richard, overwhelmed, wraps up the conversation and leaves.
Richard comes back the next day, and as he is entering the building through the check-in table, he thinks about how, while the men were camped out in Oranienplatz, they could interact with anyone and anyone could interact with them.
