Summary

Chapter 10 opens in the living room of Clement’s house. Clement, Joe Kincaid, Pella, Raymond, David, Bruce, Martha, Hiding Kneel, and another Archbuilder named Truth Renowned are present. The assembly constitutes the settlement’s school, with Clement and Joe as the teachers. The new arrivals, two married women, have a baby who is too young for school. The Archbuilders are there to help teach the children as well, specifically in the ways of Archbuilders’ native languages. The school meeting is soon interrupted by the arrival of Efram Nugent. He demands that Truth Renowned come with him; he says that there is an issue involving Truth Renowned and Hugh Merrow. Nugent and Doug take Truth Renowned to Merrow’s residence; Clement, Joe, and the children follow. In Chapter 11, Nugent accuses Merrow of having sexual relations with Truth Renowned. Merrow denies the accusations. Clement speaks up...
