Summary

In Chapter 7, Pella and the other children walk to the site of a house under construction. New residents are scheduled to arrive soon, and their house is being built by Joe Kincaid (Bruce and Martha’s father), Snider Grant (Morris’ father), Clement Marsh, Ben Barth, and Hiding Kneel. Snider Grant appears to be drunk. The kids talk about Hugh Merrow, who apparently spends much of his time painting portraits of Archbuilders. The children leave their spot after Diana Eastling passes and greets them. The children walk to Efram Nugent’s farm. Morris persists in annoying Bruce, as Morris delights in any form of attention. Bruce pushes Morris and then coerces all of the children, except for Pella, to move on without Morris. Pella tries to comfort Morris, but Morris merely becomes angry at Pella.
