Summary

Chapter 17 is titled “What Happens to the Junk Food?” Gertie takes advantage of the other students not speaking to her to study during recess. Gertie brags about getting a perfect score on a math test and the other students pretend they cannot hear her. Ms. Simms instructs the students to be on their best behavior when Mrs. Stebbins comes to talk to the class about putting on a play. Stebbins explains that the play is about Evangelina, a girl who only eats junk food. The students will play various types of junk food. The students talk about who might get to play Evangelina. Stebbins explains that the girls will audition.
