Summary

Chapter 13 is titled “People Are Fickle.” Gertie tells Aunt Rae that people in school hate her. Aunt Rae tries to console her and explains that “people are fickle” (105). Aunt Rae explains that the students are going through a phase. Gertie is also upset that Jean is not speaking to her. At school, the kids are talking about the upcoming party at Mary Sue’s. Gertie tries to get Junior to go to the party, but he does not want to go without Gertie. Gertie convinces Junior to go and be a spy for her.
