Annemarie

Annemarie is the narrator and main character of the novel. She is Mutti’s daughter, Eva’s mother, and Roger’s ex-wife. She becomes Jeremy’s adoptive mother. Annemarie’s favorite horse, Harry, was killed in a freak jumping accident twenty years prior. Annemarie’s neck was broken in that accident. Her physical injuries healed years ago, but she is still afraid of jumps. She has nightmares about her horse’s death. As it becomes obvious that working with horses and being allowed to jump in competitions is the only thing that will keep Eva out of trouble, Annemarie begins to come to terms with her fear. She begins to see a therapist who helps her find ways to deal with her fear.
