Summary

In Chapter 15, as Mutti drives Annemarie and Eva to the hospital Annemarie remembers the hateful voicemail she left on Roger’s phone. She realizes she should have known something was wrong when Roger did not show up.

Annemarie is on alert when a nurse, Chantal, takes them to a private waiting room. Based on her family’s experience with private waiting rooms, she knows that is not a good sign. The nurse promises to find a doctor to talk to them, but nearly an hour later they are still waiting.

When Chantal finally returns, she suggests that Mutti and Eva get a hotel room. The doctor tells Annemarie that a portion of Roger’s skull had to be removed to relieve the pressure on his brain.
