Summary

In Chapter 11, Louise’s doctor suggests Charles put Louise “in a home” but Charles does not think it is necessary (98). Instead, he gives her Elizabeth’s stuffed elephant so she has something to care for. Louise immediately starts treating the elephant like her baby.

One day, Charles picks up Louise to take her to the doctor. She seems down and takes a long time getting ready. After Louise’s appointment, Charles takes the doctor aside and tells him about Louise’s history of depression. The doctor suggests electroconvulsive therapy (109).

In Chapter 12, Bobby continues helping Charles with Louise and spends more and more time with her independently. One night, the friends go to the bar before Bobby leaves town to visit his sick father. Charles confides in him about what happened with Rhett. Furious, Bobby insists he is going to confront Rhett.
