Chapters 12 Summary

Going up the steps to Bishop's throne feels to Claire like a walk up to the gallows, especially because Amelie was glaring at Myrnin with obvious displeasure. Myrnin kisses Amelie's hand, but she tells Bishop that he is unwell and needs to leave. Bishop disagrees and welcomes Myrnin like an old friend. They chat amiably about his costume, and Myrnin tells Bishop that he thinks Pierrot is a secretly dangerous character. When asked by Bishop to swear allegiance, Myrnin erupts with a string of epithets, finally calling Bishop a "cheater of vandals and a defiler of dead dogs." Ysandre furiously grabs hold of Claire from behind, telling her that she will be her next victim because she lost her boyfriend (Shane).
