Summary

This section of the novel opens at Camila’s apartment, as Matilde anxiously awaits the arrival of her sister Pastora. Pastora enters and immediately tells Matilde about the incident at her work regarding Rafa’s mistress. Matilde tells her, as she always does, that it is “not her business.” Pastora continues to push Matilde to leave her husband, saying he does not truly love her, and that she deserves someone who loves her.

The next chapter of this section is an interview transcript between Ona and Matilde. Matilde says that she has always felt the least connected to the supernatural compared to her other sisters. She then describes her relationship with her mother, and how she felt that as soon as her mother realized she was infertile, she stopped loving her. This began at a young age, because Matilde never got her period...
