Epilogue Summary

Dr. Dale Kirkpatrick hadn't died at Johns Hopkins University when he was shot by Carlos. Kirkpatrick had been reported dead by the government and given a lab and a large amount of money to study the Substance Z that he had managed to keep from his encounter with Joan and Henry. Kirkpatrick has discovered the goal of the nanobots in Substance Z. Kirkpatrick explains that the Substance Z is a extraterrestrial spore. An alien civilization sent the nanobot probes into space to seed other planets when their own race began to die out. Substance Z has an effect on early embryonic tissue.

Kirkpatrick looks at the small forms in the tube as it pulls back its lips into a hiss with sharp teeth showing. Kirkpatrick ignores the fact that the creature is acting aggressive and simply says "Welcome to Earth".
