Summary
Chapter 14, also known as the grave-digging scene, highlights the aftermath of the battle between Gaven's rebels and Fangbane’s forces. Both sides suffered significant casualties and were reeling from the attack. One of Gaven’s commanders, Eoin, asks for a proper burial for his fallen comrades, but Gaven refuses. Nevertheless, Eoin rallies a few men to quickly lead a small burial effort with the medics left behind.
Meanwhile, Fangbane faces similar pressure from Kieran, an Althaean healer, to bury the dead from both sides. Fangbane agrees to a quick burial, but only due to threats and mounting pressure. Eoin and Kieran's troops unexpectedly meet at the gravesite and, to each other’s surprise, assist each other with the burial.
