Summary
Gaven leads his rebel army to a forest clearing near Fox River, where they plan to rest before advancing to Ganmali. Haunted by hallucinations of people from his past, Gaven feels a mental and emotional pull that leads him away from the camp, and he is caught in a trance, struggling with guilt and conflicted emotions. Eventually, he stumbles upon a camp led by Regional Leader Ahden and Fangbane’s allies. Gaven and Ahden engage in a duel; Ahden, who believes that Gaven is beyond saving, is determined to kill him. Mirari tries to intervene, stepping between them to plead with Gaven to stop fighting. She reveals her identity as Roselyn, but Gaven hardly reacts. Sensing the delicate connection between Mirari and Gaven, Ahden protects Mirari when Gaven stabs her. In his dying moments, Ahden tells Mirari that he has changed his mind...
