Meadowmeade

Meadowmeade is the sanatorium near Manchester, England that Megan and Abigail have chucked their aging but perfectly sane father into. It is cozy and Victorian-looking on the outside, but inside it is a sterile, modern-day institution used by society to hide the elderly.

The Cumbrian Wilderness

The Cumbrian Wilderness is an ancient woods in England outside Manchester. Dunbar travels through this wilderness when he escapes from Meadowmeade and makes his way from Plumdale, England to Nutting, England by foot. He travels for several days through the snowy woods, eventually hiding under a boulder at a place called Adam's Hough, where he is discovered by Florence.
