Summary

In Chapter 10, “Traitor!,” when Azumi Kasuya came to town, Ingrid was surprised by her beauty. Throughout hers and Stephen’s event at the university bookstore, Ingrid studied and judged her. Feeling jealous, she accompanied Azumi and Stephen to the Wittlebury Museum.

“At the final rehearsal of Chinatown Blues,” the protestors gathered outside the auditorium (166). During the protest, Ingrid was shocked to overhear Vivian claiming that Chou’s work “could only have been written by a white man” (169, Chou’s italics). When Vivian ran off upset, Ingrid followed her. She asked about her theories regarding Chou without revealing her discovery.

While at Waffle-Dog Factory with Azumi and Stephen, Ingrid was shocked to see Alex with a white girl. They had an uncomfortable exchange. Alex accused Ingrid of hurting Eunice.
