Reese

Reese is the first major character to be introduced in the novel, and one of three main characters along with Reese’s ex-lover Ames and Ames’ new lover and boss, Katrina. Reese is a trans woman who has often dated men, but she had a serious relationship with another trans woman, Amy — who has since detransitioned and goes by Ames. In the main present timeline of the novel, Reese is faced with the decision of whether to accept Ames’ proposal to co-parent Katrina’s still-unborn child with the two of them.

Reese wants to be a mother but has felt doubtful about her chances of being able to find a viable family situation as a trans woman. When she lived with Amy, the two of them considered adoption, but they broke up shortly after Reese confessed that she had been cheating on Amy with a man named Stanley...
