Relationships

One of the primary themes running through the novel is relationships. The novel reveals that even the individuals that make up a family have different relationships among the family members. For example, Rose and Daisy have a closer relationship than Poppy and Daisy. Poppy and Daisy, however, have a unique relationship of their own.

Friendship is another type of relationship the novel tackles. It seems as if Samantha and Daisy were very close friends in junior high school. After Samantha spreads rumors around town that Daisy's father left them for another woman, however, Daisy stops being friends with Samantha. The two girls resume their relationship, however, in high school when they join forces to solve the mystery of the attacks taking place on their fellow classmates.
