Dead Ever After: A Sookie Stackhouse Novel, written by author Charlaine Harrism is the 13th and final book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. In "Dead Ever After," Sookie Stackhouse faces the end of a long term relationship with her vampire lover Eric while trying to find out who is attempting to kill her.

The story begins with Sookie trying to understand the present state of her relationship with Eric. Eric has been betrothed to another vampire which makes the situation even more complicated. Eric offers Sookie the opportunity to travel to Tennessee with him and his new bride but Sookie refuses to be his mistress. The members of the vampire council insist on breaking ties between Sookie and Eric.

Sookie’s friend Sam is also acting very strange and withdrawn since Sookie used the "cluviel dor" to bring him back to life after he was attacked in the Were Circle.

Arlene returns from jail to visit Sookie, not realizing that her new benefactors are only using her to get to Sookie. The men want Sookie dead. Sookie enlists the help of her friends, including her demon godfather Mr. Cataliades to find out who is attempting to kill her and frame her for crimes she did not commit. Sookie is kidnapped by the dangerous Johan Glassport and Steve Newlin. Sookie manages to get away and Claude, a fey that had been banished, and Glassport are killed.

The story ends with Sookie and Sam trying to decide where their relationship will go next.
