Summary

The Elephant sits with his mother waiting for her gardener (who is none other than Sportcoat) and reflects on the Governor. While he thinks that the Governor is lying about the Venus, he was able to confirm that the Governor did know his father. Unsure what to make of all this, the Elephant decides to meet with the Governor again, this time in the Bronx. The Elephant worries that his ‘employers’, the Gorvino crime family, might move against him due to his opposition to drug smuggling, and because they are Sicilian while the Elephant is Genoan.

As the Elephant leaves his mother’s apartment, he runs into Joe Peck, who demands the Elephant take him with him wherever he is going. The Elephant refuses. Joe asks the Elephant to be on hand for a shipment from Lebanon, but the Elephant again refuses. The...
