Chapter Two Summary

Saetan seeks out Cassandra, a powerful woman who was once Witch and his lover. He believed that she had died, but Jaenelle told him that she is still alive. Cassandra faked her death but actually became a Guardian like Saetan, a form of half-life that is in-between living and demon-dead. They discuss Jaenelle and the importance of bringing her up with the right influences.

Saetan returns to Hell and visits the Keep at Ebon Askavi. This is the repository for the history of the Blood. He asks the librarian Geoffrey to look up two names that Jaenelle mentioned. Geoffrey finds the names listed in the Kaeleer records, the Shadow Realm that is supposedly closed off to people form Terreille. Clearly Jaenelle has been visiting there. She has also already visited Geoffrey and become friends with the Seneschal of the Keep, Draca...
