Chapters 51-55, The Serpentine, Madness, Love is an Element, Meant, Children of Regret Summary

In chapter 51, Madrigal, Chiro and Nwella join the traditional dancing and kissing taking place on the Serpentine, the main street of Loramendi. Madrigal immediately notices that she is not being treated the same as years past- she is drifting alone through the crowd because everyone knows she belongs to Thiago.

But someone does take her arm and begins dancing and "kissing" (rubbing masks) with her. He was wearing the head of a horse that completely covered him and he told her that he knows exactly who she is because he came here for her. He thanks her for saving his life and Madrigal sees his eyes- she knows who it is.
