At the beginning of chapter 36, Karou shares that she made a wish to know the angel's language. She uses her eye tattoos as weapons and Liraz and Hazael are thrust backwards. Akiva knows he has to make a choice between his siblings and Karou. Akiva chooses Karou and tells his siblings they have it in them to do more than kill.

Akiva tells Karou to meet him in Marrakesh and that he will stop them from following her. Karou agrees to wait as long as she can but she can't promise that she'll wait because she knows that she would choose her family over Akiva. As she leaves, the angels draw swords.
