Section 5: ch. 13-14 Summary

In the second part of the novel, "The Call to Action", and chapter thirteen, "Forget What You Know", after Enos falls, only Billy is not stunned into silence. He plans how to save Sam. Billy tells Sam that he must leave the reservation, possibly forever. Billy collects money and takes Sam to the bus, suggesting that Sam might be able to pass for a white man. Sam tries to imagine his future but is disoriented. He realizes this is just another type of Coyote Blue. On the bus, Sam is shocked to see the powder blue car with Lloyd Commerce pass and Lloyd Commerce toast Sam with a bottle of Coca Cola. In chapter fourteen, "Lies Have Lives of Their Own", Samson Hunts Alone becomes a white man named Samuel Hunter. After hitching rides with truckers, a bum refers...
