Summary

In Chapter 11, Amari promises Zelie that she will find a way to discover her mother’s weakness so that they can take the crown from her. Even though she loves her mother, she vows to kill her if she must, in order to protect the kingdom. Zelie says they should just give up and leave the kingdom, because she believes there is no hope. She and Amari argue about who has suffered more, and Tzain tells Zelie to calm down. She yells at him for taking Amari’s side, and then rides off on Nailah.

In Chapter 12, Zelie rides recklessly into the forest. She thought that the gods had a plan for her, but now she believes everything is hopeless. Her father died for nothing, and she wants to die and be reunited with her parents. Nailah crashes into a tree and Zelie...
