Summary

Chapter 13: “The Wintry Wind” opens with Matthew confronting Cordelia about her love for James. She admits to it and the pair exchange secrets: Matthew tells her he once put poison in his mother’s food, thinking it would make her tell him whether the rumors about him being a bastard were true, but instead the poison killed her unborn baby. No one knows the truth but him and now Cordelia. The pair feel closer to one another and Matthew agrees to accompany her out to meet Wayland the Smith. The perspective shifts to that of Lucie as she struggles to command Jesse back to life. It nearly works but makes her very sick, so the pair stop. Thomas, on the other hand, is being stalked by a figure in the shadows as he patrols through London.
