Summary

Part One opens with a snapshot chapter titled “London: East End” where author Cassandra Clare describes an unidentified killer committing murder on the street and taking the dead man’s energy for himself. Chapter 1: “The Bright Web” opens with Lucie Herondale secretly meeting with Grace Blackthorn to try to bring Grace’s brother Jesse back from the dead. The perspective then shifts to that of Cordelia Carstairs who, the night before her wedding, thinks she is being taken to a neighborhood party by her betrothed, James Herondale. Instead, his best friend and ‘parabatai,’ Matthew Fairchild, picks Cordelia up and drops her off at the Hell Ruelle. At the nightclub, Cordelia is to enjoy her bachelorette party with Lucie Herondale and Anna Lightwood, her closest girlfriends, but a faerie first accosts her and says she is curious...
