Point of View

The novel is written in first-person from the limited perspective of Carrie Soto. The limited perspective means the reader knows only what Carrie knows, and this information is revealed only when Carrie chooses to reveal it. This is mainly important with regards to Carrie's relationships. Carrie and Bowe have a one-night stand years earlier. Carrie came out of that with the impression that Bowe never called because he was not interested in pursuing the relationship. The reader has no reason to doubt that perspective until Bowe tells Carrie that he remembers a different detail – Carrie saying she did not want to hear from him. As Carrie and Bowe become closer, Javier gives Bowe more insight into Carrie's true nature which helps them clear that hurdle.
