Patrick is certain that Brendan is interested in him because he had caught him staring at his legs. Every night at six o'clock, Patrick goes to Mulvey's and waits for Brendan to arrive. He tries to get his attention, but is unsuccessful. On the third night, Patrick sobs in the corner because Brendan doesn't notice him.

Patrick is obsessed with Brendan, as he has been with people that he formerly 'loved.' Again, he does not understand the down-to-earth aspects of love and does not have a realistic view of what love ought to be.
