Summary
A man drops off Myrtle along with Bobby’s body. He succumbed to polio. The hearse driver takes the twins to Junior’s house to tell them what happened. Ann Fay swats away a fly that keeps landing on Bobby‘s face, and she gets so upset that she lays down upon him and sobs. Bessie pulls up and rocks Ann Fay praying to God to have mercy. Ann Fay feels like she failed her family because she believes her father would have been able to stop all of this.
The family mourns over Bobby in Chapter 13, “The Funeral.” Betsy keeps repeating "have mercy," and Ann Fay thinks that it is the perfect thing to say because it sounds like a prayer and not like she is just trying to make them feel better. Ann...
