Point of View

Black Sun is told in the third-person point-of-view and limited to four characters. The two main protagonists are Xiala, the captain of the ship going to Tova, and Naranpa, the Sun Priest who faces conflict from all sides. Then, both of these characters have companions with important roles in their portion of the plot. Serapio is the vessel of the crow god who travels to Tova with Xiala. He is the only character with chapters set in the past to show the audience what his childhood was like with a fate he did not choose. Okoa is a Carrion Crow, introduced in Naranpa's portion of the novel after the death of his mother, the clan matron.
