Summary

The opening section is the Prologue which opens with a quote from the romantic comedy movie Notting Hill. Elizabeth Buxbaum, known as Liz, recounts that her mother taught her about dating when she was only seven. Liz had slipped into her mother's bedroom and watched Bridget Jones's Diary until her mother realized she was there. Her mother taught Liz that “Charm and intrigue can only get you so far … which is why you never, ever choose the bad boy” (1). They had spent hours together after that, watching the rom-coms that Liz's mother loved. By the time her mother died, Liz was certain that happily-ever-after was possible and “Mr. Right” was waiting nearby. Liz felt she had to be always ready for it.
