Chapters 15 and 16 Summary
Mike appears for his deposition and is asked by Elmer Durgin or Kyra's court-appointed guardian how many times he has met 'Mary' and Kyra, and about conversations they had on the phone. Mike realizes that one or both of their phones have been tapped. He asks about Mike's conversation with Max, but Mike refuses to provide testimony that is damaging. Finally, he is through, and heads for the park where Mattie and John Storrow are waiting. They have lunch, and discuss Mattie's case. Mattie agrees to do what she can to ensure that Max isn't able to get to Kyra in other ways. John reminds them to avoid appearances of impropriety and says he'll try to come back for the local ballgame on Tuesday. When Mike gets home, Bunter the moose's bell is ringing and when it stops a woman shrieks...
