Last Part, Section 2, P. 957 to P. 1038 (end) Summary

Cortés arrives in the city with his larger force after the massacre. Cortés decides to take the huge palace gold hoard to the mainland on large sledges. Cortes complains that supplies to him must be restored. Motecuzóma gets on the roof of the palace and tells a gathering crowd of people to calm down. The people start to throw rocks, and one of them hits Motecuzóma square in the forehead, and he is knocked unconscious. Motecuzóma is taken downstairs, and in a vengeful moment, Mixtli stabs him to death. Cortés heads a Spanish force that drags the gold out of the city towards the mainland.
