Summary

In Chapter 17, it snows while Maddie, Hank, and Ellis are looking for the monster on the second day. Maddie feels Ellis's disappointment and Hank's frustration. Maddie called out and Hank filmed a stag swimming near the opposite shore. He is furious when he discovers what it is and throws the film in the water. Ellis is angry and says they should develop the film in case they caught the monster on film without realizing it. The argument grows more heated and Maddie is amazed, having never seen them fight before. Maddie suggests they use some sort of bait to try to lure it out and both men laugh at her. Maddie realizes they are drunk, though it's still very early in the day.
