Summary

In Chapter 23, Lila arrives at the hospital and asks for Janet. A receptionist says Janet is not answering her phone, but points out Janet's assistant who feels it is odd that Janet did not show up for lunch. At the office, they find Janet is on the floor in a pool of blood. The assistant yells for help. Lila is careful to touch nothing, but confirms Janet is breathing. Doctors and nurses take Janet away. Police arrive, including Detective Park who wants to know why Lila is here. She explains about Janet's phone call and their plan to meet for lunch. After a brief conversation, Detective Park asks about Rosie, saying he considers her a friend, and “You seem to be too busy running all over town interrogating people to be much help to her” (159).
