Summary

In Chapter 5, Adeena shields Lila from the news crew, but they are forced to stop at the door of Tita Rosie's Kitchen while Lila fumbles for her key. Lila feels swarmed though there are only three people from the newspaper. Several onlookers are watching from the parking lot. Lila's grandmother remains in the kitchen while the other women wait. Lila finds Detective Jonathan Park handsome. She identifies him as a mixture of White and Asian, and senses a familiarity between Detective Park and Rosie. They greet each other by first name. He is not here to eat, but is starting an investigation to determine if Mr. Long's claims have merit. He says that clearing the table makes them look guilty.
