The Escape Artist or the Magician

The Escape Artist, or the Magician, is an occupation, but also a certain type of person. Joe, then known as Josef, is instructed by his teacher, Bernard Kornblum in the art of being a magician and escape artist. Later, Joe escapes Nazi-occupied Prague and helps Sammy invent the comic book character, the Escapist. The Escapist as a comic-book character is highly successful and generates a large amount of comic-book sales. The Escapist has a mission of using his powers to help those who are in chains and oppressed. As a real life person, the person who is an escapist has problems that the one dimensional comic-book character does not have.
