Nic's apartment is where she has created another identity for herself void of an accent. She meets Everett in her apartment building as he knows her neighbor. Here she is a blank canvas as her neighbor does not know her name and she only give vague information about her past. This is also the place where she had tried to reach her full potential as she has "arrived" with a job as a school counselor and dating a high-powered lawyer from a rich Philadelphia family. It is impossible for her to return to this life as she has to pay for her crimes and doing so means falling back to the place she was trying to escape, Cooley Ridge, and staying there.
