Chapter 10 Summary

After giving orders for Hemmings and Dodswell to check the house and lock up for the night, Lucifer walks Phyllida home through the shrubbery. On the way, Lucifer tries to talk some sense into Phyllida. She tells him that she will tell him all that she knows in a few days. He wants her to tell him that she will not wander around without a male escort until the murderer is captured. She only tells him that she will be careful.

Lucifer is unhappy with this inadequate promise. As he is trying to make Phyllida see how dangerous things are for her right now, he traps her in between him and the shrubbery. Instead of continuing in the argument, Phyllida asks him to kiss her. After being asked two more times, he gives into her request.
