Chapter 9 Summary

Porky Logan is buried in a long and involved process that requires Randy draw his gun to get the job done. Randy and Dan explain the difficulty of burying Porky and the jewelry to the unconcerned Bubba. He has only one lead-lined casket that is a deluxe model and probably the only one left in the county. It cost Bubba more than eight hundred dollars and retails for fifteen hundred so he wants someone to pay for it. Dan assures him the government will someday. Offenhaus Mortuary must use their hearse and Bubba cannot refuse because he is the local Civil Defense Director. Bubba regrets the job now since he really just wants public relations, free advertising and government handouts. He objects because it will take eight strong men to move it. Randy assures Bubba he can get them. They go to Marines...
