Summary

In Chapter 19, Police Officer Manit encounters Somkit while he is patrolling the night fishers in Chattana. Somkit and Pong have just reunited and Somkit keeps Pong mostly hidden underwater, telling Officer Manit this is his cousin. Manit asks advice about a motor and pays Somkit for the information. He then says there is a “dangerous criminal” on the loose. Somkit promises to keep an eye out.

In Chapter 20, the author briefly recounts Pong's trip down the river. He hates the bright lights of Chattana and knows he will be caught and sent to Banglad any minute. The red and gold bracelet gives him hope because Father Cham had bestowed the wish that Pong would find freedom.
