Summary

In Chapter Seventeen, Godfrey is in the tavern, drowning his fear of Andronicus’ army in liquor. He wishes that he were brave, instead of feeling overwhelmed by coming danger. He feels that unlike the other times, this time everything will not be okay. He can hardly believe the Shield is down. He feels he has wasted his life in the pub but doesn’t know what to do to correct his misdeeds. Although the others in the pub talk about their reasons for not fighting, Godfrey feels as if he is abandoning his sister and brother. He thinks of the way that his sister saved his life but even this memory is not enough to get him up off his barstool.
