Summary

In Chapter 22, Gwen and Thor are standing together, watching people go about the final preparations for the double wedding. A messenger arrives with the news that Selese has committed suicide. Gwen and Thor arrive at the Lake of Sorrows where Reece continues to cradle Selese in his arms. Reece pledges revenge for the man who killed Selese and explains the situation to Gwen. Reece claims responsibility but pledges revenge for the “treachery.” Gwen tries to convince Reece to allow attendants to take Selese’s body away but he carries her himself. Gwen is disappointed that her own wedding will be postponed and feels a sense of foreboding dread.
