Summary

Chapter 5 begins with Dex and Mosscap frantically attempting to plug a leak in their freshwater tank. They eventually patch it up, but Dex is upset that they lost so much drinking water. Mosscap suggests that they go to a nearby creek to fill the tank back up and filter it through their greywater tank, but Dex feels uneasy asking Mosscap to haul the tank for them because of what happened between the humans and robots at “the factories” (83). Mosscap insists that it wants to carry the tank, and then Dex is uncomfortable walking to the creek on land that has not had a trail built into it. Mosscap convinces them it will be fine. As they travel, Mosscap gives warnings to Dex about the wildlife around them. When they arrive at the stream, Dex looks at how dirty the water seems, and voices...
